Artiste illustratrice, Marie Lessard est diplômée de la School of Visual Arts de New York (MFA - illustration). Son intérêt pour l’estampe l’incite à parfaire sa formation en arts d’impression à l’UQAM à Montréal. Au fil de sa carrière, l’excellence de son travail a été reconnue par de nombreux jurys prestigieux : Communication Arts (Californie), American Illustration (NY), The Society of Illustrators (NY), The Society of Newspaper Design (NY), Applied Arts (Toronto), Concours Lux (Montréal).
En 2001, elle est invitée au Japon et participe au Nagasawa Art Park Artist-in-Residence. Durant ce séjour, elle apprend la technique traditionnelle de gravure sur bois, Ukiyo-e. Depuis 2000, elle a participé à une vingtaine d’expositions internationales, notamment en Australie, au Japon, aux États-Unis, au Canada, en Angleterre, en France et en Espagne.
Marie Lessard enseigne l’illustration depuis plus de vingt ans. Elle est depuis 2005, professeure de dessin et d’illustration à l’École de design de l’Université Laval à Québec.
Marie Lessard is an artist illustrator based in Quebec City. She graduated from The School of Visual Arts in New York (MFA – Illustration) and from UQAM in Montreal (Printmaking). In 2001, she was invited to Japan to the Nagasawa Art Park Artist-in-Residence : Workshop Program for Japanese Woodblock Printmaking. Since 2000, her prints have been exhibited in more than twenty juried group shows, in Australia, Japan, United-States, Canada, England, France and Spain.
Her work has been published in The New York Times, Communication Arts Magazine, American Illustration, The Society of Illustrators, Applied Arts Magazine, Canadian Business, among others. She has received more than twenty awards of excellence, in Canada and the United States.
Marie Lessard has been teaching illustration for more than twenty years. Since 2005, she teaches drawing and illustration at École de design, Laval University in Quebec City.
